Guild Mortgage Named Top Workplace by San Diego Union-Tribune for Sixth Year in a Row

Leading Independent Mortgage Lender Recognized for Its Outstanding
Work Environment, Company Culture and Future Potential Again in 2018

SAN DIEGO – Guild Mortgage, one of the largest independent mortgage lenders in the U.S., has been named a winner of the 2018 Top Workplace award by The San Diego Union-Tribune, earning the distinction for the sixth consecutive year.

The Top Workplaces Program honors companies that have outstanding workplace culture and business environments highly valued by their employees. The rankings are based on the results of an anonymous employee feedback survey administered by Energage, LLC, a research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement, and leading provider of technology-based employee engagement tools.

The online survey ranks employee levels of satisfaction with their jobs, feelings of appreciation, confidence in the future prospects of the company and manager effectiveness. In addition, it measures aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection.

The Top Workplace survey was sent via email to employers and staff of public, private, nonprofit and governmental organizations with 50 or more employees. The rankings require a minimum 35 percent response rate to qualify. Companies with the most points receive the top rankings in one of three categories based on the size of the organization:

  • Large: 500 or more employees
  • Midsize: 100 to 499 employees
  • Small: 50 to 99 employees

Guild Mortgage, which employs more than 700 people in San Diego County, was ranked No. 5 in the large company category. Guild also earned the Spotlight Award for Appreciation, one of 12 special awards that went to companies excelling in certain areas.

“We have grown significantly in recent years and have been fortunate to maintain our collegial, entrepreneurial culture,” said Mary Ann McGarry, president and CEO of Guild Mortgage. “The positive responses from our employees during that time are a testament to our willingness to listen to our people and implement their ideas. This collaborative spirit contributes to employee satisfaction and gives management ideas for continuous improvement, which are essential to our plans for future growth.”

Guild Mortgage’s growth over the past several years has been among the highest in the industry. Since 2010, the company has expanded from 75 branches in 16 states to nearly 4,000 employees operating from more than 340 branch and satellite offices in 29 states today. Guild recently reported records in lending and servicing during the first three quarters of 2018.

More than 1,500 San Diego area employers were invited to participate in the survey process in 2018, with 70 companies and organizations recognized as Top Workplaces by the San Diego Union-Tribune.

A top-10 national lender by purchase loan volume, Guild specializes in developing unique pilot programs and niche products to help deliver the promise of home in every neighborhood and community it serves. Its loan professionals can serve the needs of any homebuyer, from helping first-time buyers achieve homeownership, often through government loan programs, to homebuyers looking to upgrade with a jumbo loan.
